A 20 Year Tradition of Excellence
In 1990, Detroit Cardinal Adam Maida gave a speech to the Detroit Economic Club.
He asked that the community help build cornerstones for the city. One cornerstone was to be a Christ-centered schooling alternative that would provide the children of Detroit with access to a high-quality education. Twenty years later, the fact that the Cornerstone Independent Schools were named the #1 primary school by Excellent Schools Detroit, speaks to a vision fulfilled.
This success was translated to a subsequent effort, namely, Cornerstone Charter Schools. These secular schools are grounded in the same unwavering purpose Cornerstone was built on: To make possible an excellent education for the children of the city, based on a foundation of loving and serving others. Our program includes integrity and good character as a way of preparing them for a fulfilling life and leadership. After just one year, both of our Cornerstone Charter Academies were named in the top ten Charter Schools by Excellent Schools Detroit for 2010. And this is just the beginning!
Cornerstone Charter Schools believes improvement is a lifelong effort and we are evolving and transforming to even better serve the children of Detroit. Every aspect of education is being revisited, based on a simple premise; what if student success was the center of our world? In this way, we can prepare every child who walks through our doors with an excellent education for todayís changing landscape. It is how we are actively Charting A Better Course For Detroitís Youth.
